Family legend reports that the Gobles were French
Hugenots who were forced out
of France when LouisXIV revoked the Edict de Nantes. They settled in
Kinsale, Ireland where they were
silversmiths. A collection of Irish silver is on display
at the Victoria & Albert Museum in London - several of the pieces
bear the
name Nicholas Goble.
Further legend has the family going back to the
time of William the Conquerer,
to a knight named Baron Heron.
